Jay Hammond was trained as a jazz guitarist, composer and audio producer at Berklee College of Music. He has released music as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer under the name Trippers & Askers. Of late, he has developed a number of new collaborations. One with Rome based, Kurdish Iraqi baglama player Bako Jaf, another guitar/modular synthesizer improvisation duo with Yair Rubinstein under the name Incidental Exercise, a guitar/pedal steel ambient duo with M.Grig, and improvisational work with percussionist Ken Moshesh. He is currently the guitarist for Chessa Rich, and has toured and recorded on guitar, electric bass, mandolin and voice with various projects including No Lands, Eamon Fogarty & the Extra Fingers, Psychic Temple, and Adrian Knight. Through these collaborations, he has worked with current or former members of The Sun Ra Arkestra, The War on Drugs, Lambchop, Wye Oak, Sylvan Esso, St. Vincent, and Psychic Temple. He has worked as an instructor Duke University Department of Music, and has collaborated with Grammy Award winning artist Anthony LaMarca in the band No Lands. His original music has been released on Outlaws of the Border, and he has recorded as an instrumentalist on projects released on Sleepy Cat, Galtta Media, and New Amsterdam Records.
