Teaching and Research Bio
Jay Hammond is cultural anthropologist and sound artist currently working as Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University. In his writing and sound art works, he explores the intersection between research and art, creativity and inquiry. His current book project, "Social Music: A Sounded Anthropology of Improvisation and Intimacy" is an ethnography of music communities in North America whose aesthetic values proliferate loving, intimate relationships between participants across social and cultural boundaries of race, class, gender and ability.
